Saving Raster Charts to the Hard Drive

If you have the hard drive space, you might want to copy some raster charts or an entire chart CD to your hard drive. Charts stored on the hard drive take less time to load and display than those on a CD.

A regional CD usually contains over 350 MB of charts.

Copying All the Charts on a CD to Your Hard Drive

To copy the CHARTS folder from the CD into a folder on your hard drive:

  1. Insert the raster chart CD into your computer CD-ROM drive.

  2. Use one of the following methods to access Windows Explorer:

    1. Right-click My Computer on your desktop and choose Explore.

    2. Click Start > Run and enter Explorer.

  3. Click the CHARTS CD in the left pane of the Explorer window.

  4. With the CHARTS CD selected, right-click the CHARTS folder in the right pane of the Explorer window and choose Copy.

  5. Locate the folder you want to copy the charts into.

  6. Right click on or inside the folder and choose Paste.

Copying Individual Charts

Each chart consists of two halves, a north and a south, each of which consists of two files; a .BIT and an .RPL. If you are not comfortable trying to copy files in Windows Explorer, create a folder on your hard drive to save the charts to, start FliteStar, and then use one of the following methods:
