FliteStar routes can be exported to the following Garmin panel units:
GNC 430W/530W, version 3.20 and later
G1000 / G900X / G950: GDU software version 9.10 and later
You must have the following items to create and export a FliteStar route to a Garmin panel unit:
Avionics with appropriate software level, listed above
FliteStar, version 9.4.3 and later
For the 430W/530W:
Garmin Flightplan Migrator utility (Part Number 006-A0349-00)
Garmin USB Aviation Data Card Programmer (Part Number 010-10579-00)
Garmin GNC 430W/530W Flightplan Card (Part Number 011-00460-45)
For the G1000:
SanDisk SD Card Reader/Writer (SDDR-99, or Garmin Part Number 013-00203-00)
SD Card (Garmin recommends SanDisk brand cards)
RoutePacks can contain one route or a collection of routes. RoutePacks with more than one route export the waypoints for all the routes into a single .fpl file. For example, if you planned a long trip with fuel stops along the way, each take-off and landing constitutes a route within the RoutePack. When you export this RoutePack to an .fpl file, you get a single.fpl file with the waypoints from all the routes, in sequence, for the full trip.
If you have more than one route in your RoutePack, and you want each route in a separate .fpl file, move the single routes into their own RoutePacks, then follow the instructions below to export all the single-route RoutePacks to .fpl files.
Plug in the appropriate media adapter and card to your computer:
For the 430W/530W, the Garmin USB Data Card Programmer and Flightplan card
For the G1000, the SanDisk reader/writer and SD card
Select the RoutePack in the RoutePack List.
Click File > Export [RoutePack] to: > Garmin.
In the Save as dialog box, name the export file using the .fpl extension and click Save. File names must be 32 characters or less.
The G1000 SD card is ready to take to the panel unit as soon as FliteStar completes export of the flight plan. The .fpl file(s) must be located in the root directory of the SD card for the G1000 to recognize them.
G1000 users | Save your .fpl files to the SD card root directory.
The G1000 does not search for routes in sub-directories. |
Open the Garmin Flightplan Migrator utility and navigate to the .fpl file(s) you created in the above steps.
Choose Program to save the flight plan(s) to the appropriate data card.
Take the data card to the unit, insert it, and power up the unit. The unit loads the flight plans from the card and provides any necessary feedback.
NOTE | The Garmin Flightplan Migrator utility is the only software you need to use with FliteStar. If you are a JSUM customer, that application works to update data in your panel units. |
Do not use your navigation DB card or Terrain DB card for transferring flight plans.
Any user-defined waypoint in a .fpl file will overwrite a like-named user-defined waypoint in the unit.
Garmin PC utilities and units only recognize file names with a .fpl extension.
.fpl file names must be 32 total characters or shorter.
G1000 .fpl files must be at the highest directory level on the SD card.
Make sure to use the right card slot in the 430W/530W.
